Design for the dump

There is a fact that our technical equipment breaks a little bit too easy. It depends on bad quality, bad luck and free will. That’s true we don’t always want our things to have a long life time. Then we can’t buy new ones. Everyone wants the latest, the newest and the best. The thing is as Annie Leonard tells in the movie The story of electronics: it is not good for the environment. The differences between the electronics bought a year ago and the once available to buy today are big. There is a development in the technical world that is amazing. No other word can describe it. A phone bought two years ago has probably bigger differences with a new one then five years old phone has with the two years old one. Is the development going to slow down? No one knows. A hundred years ago they thought that we had invented all most everything. Do we think so today? Barley....

In the mobile telephone market we can find a lot of good phones. Better then we need for a simple call; they aren’t just phones longer they are small computers. The trend in this market right now is that it isn’t the better performance or a new phone that’s important; it’s the applications that are important. Applications that is available on the internet that makes it possible to use your phone in different purposes. In other words the phones can change and the software can be updated. It isn’t the same need for a new phone. I believe in that, better phones with a higher quality that can be updated. Companies can earn their money in a new way and we can save some money but most important the nature by using our stuff for a longer time. I do also believe that these thoughts can be used in other types of business for example TV: s and computers.
